On Limitations

“If only you knew the things I have seen in the darkness of night…at times I have been nearly demented with wretchedness at being unable to express these things in visual terms. In comparison with these thoughts, every single print is a failure, and reflects not even a fraction of what might have been.” M.C. Echer

If you are feeling anything like this quote, your visions must be extraordinary indeed!!!

I feel this intensely, sometimes to the point of almost despair. I was absolutely amazed that Escher, of all people, felt this way! Even HE was frustrated by his own limitations! Wow. That left me with a profound sense of awe.

That feeling..that drive to create what we see in our minds...that is what keeps me writing. It's also what scares me everytime I pick up a paintbrush. I never feel I can quite capture what I want to express. So I continue on.....

You paint? That is fantastic, wish I could see that--if what you paint is half as good as what you write it must be amazing.
